Meet Linda Hooi, pharmacist and founder of BeyondKP. As someone who has struggled with eczema, KP, and severe dry skin since childhood, Linda is passionate about helping others overcome their skin concerns and feel confident in their own skin. 

She founded BeyondKP to provide a safe and effective solution for those struggling from the appearance of rough bumpy skin that is caused by keratosis pilaris (KP).

Why do you think that there’s a lack of awareness about KP (keratosis pilaris)?

KP is a relatively common condition that affects up to 50% of the population, and it is more commonly known as “chicken skin” or “goosebumpy skin” rather than keratosis pilaris. 

It is often not talked about openly due to the stigma surrounding skin issues, not many people are keen to talk about their “chicken skin”. People with KP may feel embarrassed or ashamed of their skin and may be hesitant to seek treatment or talk about their condition openly. This can lead to a lack of awareness and understanding of the condition in the general population.

Also, KP is considered a harmless and non-contagious condition, which means that it is often overlooked by healthcare providers and may not be a priority for research funding.

What makes you so excited about doing what you do?

I keep these little cards with my customer reviews on my desk. Whenever I read about how our products have helped them feel more comfortable, to wear short sleeved shirts outside the house and be more confident in their own skin – it is incredibly fulfilling. 

You were recently nominated as a Finalist of the Australian Women’s Small Business Champion Award 2022, has that accolade changed your approach to business?

Being in the company of women at varying stages in their businesses has been a great source of inspiration for me. It motivates me to continuously improve myself, to keep learning and to believe that anything is possible with hard work, determination and perseverance.

What are your future plans for BeyondKP?

To offer a comprehensive solution to those who face the challenge of rough, bumpy skin by broadening our range of skincare products.

To normalise this skin concern and promote understanding and support for those who are affected by it.

Is there a fun fact about yourself that you’d like to share with us?

I’m a foodie and always love a good bowl of soup. 

A major clumsy – often bumps into stationary objects (it moved ok!)
