Your parents are entrepreneurs too with your Mum owning a restaurant in Thailand. How has their entrepreneurial spirit influenced you in your business?
I’ve always had this fire inside of me for entrepreneurship. Even during my school years in Thailand, I was quite driven to create and innovate. We were living in a remote area far from the centre of Bangkok, where I saw a unique opportunity. There was a longing among the immediate Indian community, and like you know us Indians love movies. We used to travel to Singapore a lot, and every time we returned, we made sure to buy some known movies and those days they were actual cassette tapes.
With a spark of inspiration, I decided to circulate my little collection of movies and films on old cassettes and casually renting them, at no cost, to family and friends. This small, makeshift business idea wasn’t just about entertainment; it was about filling a void, creating a sense of home and connection in a foreign land.
This experience ignited my entrepreneurial spirit, teaching me the power of identifying problems and crafting immediate, impactful solutions. It was a thrilling journey of creativity and resourcefulness that laid the foundation for my future ventures.
My parents are teachers by profession, before my Mom opened her restaurant, right in the heart of Bangkok. After living a migrant-life for about 15 years, my mom identified a need for homely, vegetarian, tasty Indian food in Bangkok. She matched her skillset with this need and built Chennai Kitchen, a very popular restaurant. That even further ignited my entrepreneurial spirit and instilled in me a sense of independence and creativity, teaching me to embrace challenges, strive for excellence, and remain committed to my vision.

What are some of your main challenges balancing a consulting career and building ‘A Weaver’s Touch’?
Building A Weavers Touch has been both exciting and challenging, especially with a full-time job and family. Of course the obvious and biggest challenge has been “time” but I strongly believe that when you are passionate about something, you will somehow find the time. I think it’s a test of endurance and perseverance, but my passion for both my career and A Weaver’s Touch keeps me motivated.
There are some very deliberate shifts in mindset required when you are an entrepreneur. Employment involves working within established frameworks and processes, whereas starting a business requires a more entrepreneurial approach, with a focus on innovation and flexibility. Adapting to this new way of thinking has been a learning curve.
Despite these challenges, the journey has been incredibly rewarding. The skills and experiences from my professional career have been invaluable in shaping the strategic direction of A Weavers Touch. I am constantly learning and growing, and I am excited about the future of my business.
What do you think we can do better to encourage the younger generation to appreciate and preserve traditions in their cultures?
Education, leveraging technology (considering that is where most of our younger generation live), and continuing to involve young people in cultural activities and events is crucial.

What are some upcoming projects that you have in the pipeline in the next 6 – 12 months for The Weaver’s Touch?
We recently opened our first physical store in Bangkok, Thailand, which was established for both strategic and emotional reasons. Thailand not only takes me back to my foundations, but it is also strategically positioned in Southeast Asia and boasts a vibrant fashion capital vibe. We hope to use this opportunity to create an inspiring clothing line that blends traditional handloom fabric with a touch of Western wear. This project aims to celebrate the rich heritage of handloom weaving while introducing contemporary design elements that appeal to a broader audience.
Additionally, India has over 136 different weaving techniques spread all over the country. At A Weaver’s Touch we currently carry about 12 different weaving techniques and hope to add 5 more to our collection this year.

What legacy are you looking to leave behind in the work that you’re doing?
I may be just a drop in the ocean, but it’s often said that even the smallest steps can create a significant impact. I want to inspire a new generation of entrepreneurs and creatives to see the value in blending tradition with innovation. I hope my journey demonstrates that it’s possible to build a successful business that respects and enhances cultural heritage while adapting to contemporary markets.
Ultimately, the legacy I wish to leave is one where A Weavers Touch stands as a testament to the power of passion, perseverance, and respect for one’s roots, inspiring others to follow their own paths with a sense of purpose and pride.
