What are some common misconceptions of Feng Shui that you’ve come across?
One common misconception I’ve encountered is the belief that Feng Shui is simply about placing decorative objects or re-arranging furniture to make you lucky. In reality, Feng Shui is a deep and complex practice that integrates energy flow, environmental psychology, and thoughtful design to enhance your quality of life.
Feng Shui is often seen as superstitious or mystical, without a structured system behind it. However, Feng Shui is based on rules, formulas and guidelines in a structured system that align with beautiful, functional design. Feng Shui is a Chinese metaphysical practice that also draws on principles used in acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine.
Another myth is that Feng Shui is a quick fix for all of life’s problems. While it can improve aspects of your environment and personal well-being, Feng Shui is a holistic tool for creating more harmonious living spaces and fostering long-term improvements in health, prosperity, and well-being. It’s about understanding and balancing the energies in one’s environment, not just placing “lucky” objects like golden ornaments or money toads to attract wealth.
Many people also mistakenly believe that Feng Shui is the same for every space. Some approaches, like the Black Hat Sect, popularised a standardised energy map that applies equally to all homes. However, traditional Feng Shui considers the unique features and specific orientation of each site, making it a highly personalised practice. Effective Feng Shui involves a tailored approach that considers the specific characteristics of each space.
Lastly, there’s the misconception that Feng Shui is only relevant for Asian cultures or traditional homes. Feng Shui principles can be applied to any space, regardless of cultural background or architectural style.
By addressing these misconceptions, I help people understand that Feng Shui is a powerful tool for creating spaces that promote prosperity, health, and well-being, allowing people to live more fulfilling and meaningful lives.

Are there any memorable projects that you’ve worked on that you would like to share with us?
I had a client who felt stuck and stagnant with her career. Her office was a tiny workspace at the end of a corridor with her desk directly facing a wall. She asked for my help to enhance the Feng Shui of her workspace, so I analysed the energy map of her home and asked her to relocate to this area. We positioned her desk so that a solid wall was behind her to provide an energetic level of support. We also aligned her chair with her personal success direction, which I determined based on her birthdate. Her new position provided a view out to her garden and pool area which created a connection to nature to enhance her creativity. She found clarity and purpose in this new workspace, and now is a published author of multiple books, with a fast growing media profile.
I worked with clients who were struggling to have a baby. They looked to Feng Shui as a last resort. When I calculated the energy map of their home, I found they had a water feature located in an area that activated abdominal illness. I suggested they turn off the water feature and within a few months they were very happy to be pregnant, and with twins! However the husband loved the water feature and was unconvinced about the Feng Shui advice, so he switched it back on again. Soon his wife started having early contractions, which was a huge worry. So, they turned off the water feature again and everything went smoothly with the pregnancy. Now they are a happy with two kids!
I also work on commercial building projects, where appealing to Feng Shui conscious customers is important. One of the most notable is a resort and casino development in the Philippines that has won multiple awards and was recently named Asia’s leading casino resort. I was involved in assembling a team to work on maximising the energy flow and create a welcoming ambiance that radiates good fortune.

Do you think that Feng Shui is becoming more accepted in both Eastern and Western societies and why?
Yes, Feng Shui is increasingly gaining acceptance in both Eastern and Western societies. This is due to greater cultural diversity and growing interest in wellness and holistic living. As the world becomes more interconnected, Feng Shui has been introduced to many communities, making it more familiar and accepted.
The booming wellness industry and growth in holistic living aligned perfectly with Feng Shui, as it promotes harmony, balance and positive energy in living and working spaces. As people become more mindful of their environments and the impact on their mental and physical health, they turn to practices like Feng Shui.
The benefits of Feng Shui are also becoming more evident through the media. Many people, including celebrities, share success stories and testimonials about how Feng Shui has improved their health, prosperity, and overall quality of life. Feng Shui principles are being incorporated into modern design and architecture, appealing to those who appreciate the aesthetic and functional benefits. In real estate, particularly in areas with interest from Asian communities, Feng Shui influences property values and buyer preferences, making it a practical consideration.
If you could pick the favourite aspects of your business, what would they be?
My favourite aspects of the business are working with project teams and property owners who are building or renovating their living and workspaces and want to maximise the energy for greater value and success. I love coaching clients and helping them to “Feng Shui their lives”, which this brings me great fulfillment as I see them grow, develop, and reach their potential.
I also love sharing my knowledge with Feng Shui enthusiasts and those new to the practice. Speaking on television and radio and at events like the Design Show, Sydney Build Expo, and the Home Show allows me to reach a broader audience and introduce the benefits of Feng Shui to more people.
What are the top 3 non-negotiables for you when it comes to balancing life and business?
I have several habits, rituals, and routines that I practice every day to manage my energy. My top three non-negotiables for balancing life and business are meditation, physical wellbeing, and environmental alignment.
Morning meditation is essential for me. It helps keep me calm and brings clarity that permeates both my personal and professional life. I often combine meditation with gratitude journaling and affirmations.
Next is physical wellbeing. I exercise most days, alternating between weight training, cardio and playing netball. I also eat clean most of the time, saving treats for when I go out. This keeps me physically fit, sharpens my mind, and helps me maintain a positive mindset.
Finally, my living and workspaces must be aligned with Feng Shui principles. This alignment enhances my productivity and wellbeing, allowing me to serve my clients to the best of my ability.
